Creative drawing and design in English
During my language classes to the children and youngsters of Oleśnica I was able to verify, with some satisfaction I admit, that they often distracted themselves consciously or unconsciously creating more or less sophisticated drawings while enduring my linguistic explanations. This image made me recall a time when, already under the influence of television and the first video games and computers, at school, together with a very small group of students we would create our own graphic stories, cartoons or fantastic characters, creatures and scenarios.
It is logical to think that as communication media becomes more visual and dynamic, visual content and its influence are increasing. So are the needs to express oneself correctly, not only orally but also graphically in many of today's disciplines and professions. The applications and devices at our reach make us improvised photographers, video creators, web page developers, digital illustrators or 3d model designers.
In words of Mario Carpo, one of the most prestigious critics and technological analysts in the academic world, our society evolved from an oral phase first to a written one, later to a two-dimensional graphic phase to reach the current and in progress 3D model culture.
The teaching of languages is provided profusely, especially at an early age. Great importance is given to grammatical correctness but due to these academic demands mistakes are not welcome. This added to the scarce occasions to have a conversation inhibits the student’s fluency in practical communication. On the contrary, the practice of graphic and visual systems is learned during studies at school and university but not usually within them. Students who want to enter schools with an important expressive requirement (visual arts, fine arts, architecture, design...) must access private courses prior to taking their university access exams. Once they reach their goal they realize that they are going to need either more private education or la lot of self-education.
My project aims to fill these two gaps .The first objective, the idiomatic one, proposes not only the learning of English but also the practical use of the student's knowledge of it. To do this, we turn language not into the end but into the means to carry out a project. And here comes the second proposal, the practice of analog and digital techniques of graphic and visual expression. In the digital age, possible outcomes, tools and customer’s demands change rapidly. The official educative centres cannot always adapt quickly enough, which is why they are increasingly more concerned with theoretical teaching rather than practical training.
The goal is double. First one is making the students feel comfortable when speaking English in any environment, and be able to explain their work and purposes. The second is to enable the student to search, absorb new technologies and adapt to a constantly and rapidly changing world increasing their chances of choice and success.
The -ESP ADA (Enrique Sancho Pereg Art, Design and Architecture) AKADEMIA- project aims to enhance the following abilities in the student:
Expression abilities. The innate and the learned ones while developing new techniques and exploring new possibilities. Help him become a dynamic and proactive agent.
Knowledge linked to commitment. This will allow him be aware of the connection between his knowledge, his decisions and the result of his work. He will realize how important self-teaching is to gain resources and broaden his options.
Motivation and passion. For their chosen path. I can affirm that the best are not the most naturally talented but the ones who struggle the most to achieve their goals.
The tools we will work with will be both oral and visual. Orally, English will be exclusively spoken as stands for the international language of professional and technical communication. All of the contents ( tutorials, manuals, software, web information…) they will handle during the lessons will be in English. At a visual level, students will learn to see, synthesize and express in the properpossible analog or digital techniques to express whatever they want to transmit.
We will begin exploring a wide spectrum of possibilities. Progressively we will give more importance to the techniques that are most related to the student's preferences or his personal, academic or professional interest.

About ESPADA.
Enrique Sancho Pereg, Art, Design and Architecture.
I am an architect born in Spain working as a language teacher in Oleśnica. I do work as well as an artist for institutions and particulars while writing my thesis on digital image and fabrication. I firmly believe visual communication is growing and increasingly becoming a universal means of communication in in every field. All the universe of online and offline tools available; social media pages, web creation pages, graphic online editors, modelling , drawing , editing software or the so-called AI among many others, creates a great but often confusing world of possibilities and demands.
My speciality is bringing ideas to virtual content and after to reality. The vast process involving applications and systems to create a specific piece of work is endless. Nothing stays behind. The pencil and the paper are and will be needed but still we do not know what gadget or prodigy will be a trend next year. We have so many possibilities that we often lose the focus on the idea .On the contrary many good ideas do not reach their final objective for not being supported by the proper tools or remain hidden behind the enormous forest of void content.
Due to my artistic and technical formation I have designed two different courses to enhance the student’s capability of accomplishing a project well balanced in both intellectual and technical aspects. The first one I named Artistic course and the second one Technical course. This can move to confusion and make someone think that the Artistic course is more intellectually focused and the Technical one is a mere “learn the tools” course. This is not the intention. Both have as much an ideological component as a tool learning one. The main difference is the type of outcome and function of the project we will work in. The critical thinking and critical tool use is common to them both.

Aim
After several years teaching to kids in Oleśnica my intention is to proof that students have far more knowledge of English language than they dare to show. In ESPADA AKADEMIA we do not evaluate their English or drawing skills. We want them to use what they know without fear of making mistakes. Mistakes are welcome and students will learn how to overcome them while enjoying doing something they like to do. Create.
Kids will grow and learn better doing what they like; exercising their abilities in total freedom.
They can quit after a module and return for another module of the course. They will work on two kind of projects; one per month, a short one, and one more ambitious throughout the year; both generally related. Theory and practice mentoring is provided in order to ensure different outcomes and creativity regardless of the age or level of the student.
Mentoring
Information and the tools to help them solve their problems is given. Questions are answered and inspiration provided rather than give standard solutions directly. They are the ones leading and deciding on their own projects and choices while being taught in free will and responsibility. Freedom and responsibility come together when growing as an individual. Achieving a high degree of commitment with oneself is the key to integrate and outstand within the group.
